Mick McDermott has been named NIFL Manager of the Month for August.

The Glens drew with Larne and defeated Crusaders, Dungannon Swifts and Portadown to finish the month unbeaten.

McDermott said: “After a disappointing end to last season, we needed a good start to this season.

“Some people might say we haven’t played the top teams, because that’s people’s nature unfortunately, but I don’t look at it that way.

Glentoran 1-0 Coleraine

Glentoran remain top of the Danske Bank Premiership after a 1-nil victory over Coleraine this afternoon at the Bet McLean Oval.

Prior to kick-off there was a minute’s silence held to mark the passing of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II; a minute impeccably observed by everyone in the stadium.

Ballyclare Comrades 0-7 Glentoran Women

Holders Glentoran Women comfortably progressed into the semi-final of the Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup this evening with a comprehensive victory at Dixon Park.

In a match dominated by Glentoran, the first half hour was a series of missed chances but finally on the 30th minute Jen McDade opened the scoring with a rasping drive from the edge of the box. This was followed 5 mins later by Kerry Beattie making it two and her international teammate Caragh Hamilton gave the Glens a 3-0 half time lead following a fast-paced dribble and shot in the 44th minute.

Glentoran secured their biggest win since September 2011 with this comprehensive victory in the Bet McLean League Cup. With no fewer than six players on the scoresheet.

Mick McDermott made eight changes to last week’s starting line-up v Lisburn Distiller, perhaps most significantly the return of skipper Marcus Kane after the injury he recently picked up against Newry City. Recent signing 18-year-old Terry Devlin retained his place in centre midfield while Mal Smith was injured for this one.

East Belfast Remembers Her Majesty

Glentoran Football Club was proud to be represented at a special service of thanksgiving in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at CS Lewis Square last night.

The club was represented by Club Captain Marcus Kane and Under 20s squad member Bailey Locke, who laid a commemorative wreath on behalf of the club and the Glentoran Family.

Glentoran Women 3-1 Sion Swifts

Glentoran Women continued their domestic winning run tonight with a hard fought home win over Sion Swifts at Ashfield.

Glens opened the scoring after 17 minutes through the prolific Kerry Beattie, but the sides went into the break even after a Kerry Brown equaliser for Swifts,

The second half was an even agffair until international forward Caragh Hamilton put the Glens in front with 15 minutes to go. Debutant recent signing Imogen Lancaster made the game safe with her first Glens goal with 8 minutes left.
