Wed, 05/10/2022 - 20:26

We are delighted to announce that on Sunday, 2nd October the Northern Ireland Football Programme Collectors’ Club held their annual programme fair in the Pat Jennings Lounge at the National Stadium.

At this event, the NIFPCC present their Programme of the Year award but this time, because of the hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, were presenting two awards for 2019-20 and 2021-22. (There was no award for 2020-21 as few programmes were produced that season.)

Wed, 05/10/2022 - 18:35

Today Glentoran General Manager Desi Curry visited the Hinch Whiskey Distillery to secure a case of whiskey with a specially commissioned label to celebrate Glentoran’s 140th Birthday.

Pictured with Desi is Hinch Whiskey founder and owner Terry Cross. Terry has been a long time associate and sponsor of the Club and wished everyone well for Friday night’s game against Carrick Rangers.

Glentoran 6-0 Warrenpoint Town

Wed, 05/10/2022 - 00:37

Glentoran moved comfortably into the Quarter Final of the Bet McLean League Cup with this very straightforward win over Championship opposition at the Bet McLean Oval.

Perhaps with Friday night’s home Danske Bank Premiership game with Carrick. Mick McDermott opened the game with the same starting line-up as last weekend’s abandoned game with Ballymena United. Ally Roy and James Singleton remained unavailable, but Terry Devlin was on the bench following his injury sustained on international duty last week.

In tonight’s night’s award-winning Glentoran Gazette, manager Mick McDermott tells us that the team started the game against Ballymena looking sharp and incisive and of his disappointment that a deluge caused the game to be abandoned as he felt before kick-off the pitch was in immaculate condition after recent work. Looking ahead to tonight’s game he warns that Warrenpoint have experienced and talented players who have done well at Premiership level, as well as an experienced backroom team that deserve to be treated with utmost respect.

Glentoran FC will celebrate its 140th birthday with an anniversary match and the opening of a club that will support the local community.

The 23 times league champions will compete against Carrick Rangers FC on October 7, exactly 140 years since the club was founded.

And to celebrate this special birthday club owner Ali Shams Pour will announce the launch of the 'The 140 Club', a body set up to assist those in need within the local community during this time of financial hardship and cost-of-living crisis.

In another 40-page match programme for Friday night the Gazette team looks at issues on and off the field. We condemn those behind digging up the Conor McMenamin video and ask is it time for the IFA to invest in the full-time game here while long-standing supporter Stephen Reid has a plan to end the scramble for tickets at away games. Mick McDermott is wary of Ballymena while Bill Wray is hoping the Sky Blues can turn around their dismal early season form.
