Match Preview: Portadown v Glentoran

Thu, 15/08/2024 - 22:05

Saturday 17th August

Kick Off 3.00pm

Old rivalries and friendships will be renewed on Saturday as we visit Shamrock Park for our first league game there since November 2022.

Both sides go into this one looking for their first Sports Direct Premiership points as like ourselves the Ports suffered a 1-0 loss in their season opener, with a Ryan Curran goal separating the teams at Solitude last Sunday.

Obituary: Bertie Taylor

Sun, 11/08/2024 - 16:21

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing earlier this week of lifelong Glenman Bertie Taylor, at the age of 95 years old. We pass on deepest condolences to Bertie's family and friends.

This interview with Bertie appeared in the Belfast Telegraph in October 2021. We believe it is a fitting epitaph to a great member of the Glentoran family and are proud to reproduce it by way of a tribute.

Genial Glentoran fan Bertie Taylor has a host of tales to tell

Larne Women 0-3 Glentoran Women

Sat, 10/08/2024 - 18:51

Glentoran’s love affair with the Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup continued tonight as this quarter final win means the team moved closer to its 6th successive final looking for its 6th successive win.

The Glens opened the scoring quickly when in the 7th minute when Emily Wilson was first to meet Jess Foy’s ball over the Larne defence to chip over Cerys Sharkey in the Larne goal.

Shortly afterwards skipper Foy went from provider to scorer when from a free kick into the box Nadene Caldwell nodded back for Jess to head home.

Glentoran 0–1 Crusaders

Sat, 10/08/2024 - 01:17

A catastrophic moment in defence caused the new look Glens to drop all 3 points at the Bet McClean Oval this evening in our first Sports Direct Premiership game of the new season.

Without the suspended Fuad Sule and the injured Johnny Russell and Marcus Kane, Declan Devine started with a 3-5-2 line-up that included 4 new signings making their debuts – Danial Gyollai, Frankie Hvid, Dylan Connolly and Wassim. James Singleton in midfield was captain.

There’s a double dose of Declan Devine as the Glentoran Gazette returns for another season. The team boss talks to Matthew Brown about the problems he identified after coming in and the abnormal number of departures. And looking forward to the first game of the campaign will be without Aaron Wightman, Jonny Russell and captain Marcus Kane for what he is viewing as a tough game against a new look Crusaders.
