Contract Contract News: Academy graduate James Douglas signs long-term contract extension

Glentoran Football Club is delighted to announce that academy graduate James Douglas has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract, extending his stay at the BetMcLean Oval until 2027.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who joined the Academy at the age of 13, made his senior debut against Crusaders in April 2024 and has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough campaign this season.

Douglas has already made 15 appearances for the first team this season, 7 starts and 8 as a substitute, establishing himself as an integral part of manager Declan Devine’s squad.

Westbourne Award for Jonny

Jonathan Russell received yet another individual award for his breakthrough performances last season yesterday when he was presented with the Westbourne Glentoran Supporters Club Player of the Year award for 2023/2024.

20-year old Jonny has  had a toubled spell with an injury that has restricted his availability for most of this season so far, But the good news is that he has returned to full training and should be back in first team contention before long.

A disappointing afternoon at the Bet McLean Oval saw the Glens lose to a spirited and well organised away side. A game ultimately decided by a contrasting sense of clinical edge, but a contentious refereeing decision also had a major part to play in the final outcome.  Declan Devine opted for what it is becoming a familiar first XI for league games. Jordan Jenkins moved to the bench after his excellent County Antrim Shield performance in the week to be replaced by David Fisher. Daniel Gyollai also stepped back between the sticks in place of Danny Mills.

Glentoran will look to build on their recent winning run as they host Portadown in the Sports Direct Premiership on Saturday 16th November 2024 at the BetMcLean Oval.

The Glens head into the fixture on the back of two impressive results: a commanding 3-0 league victory away to Glenavon and a hard-fought 2-0 win over Ballymena United in the ToalsBet.Com County Antrim Shield semi-final, securing their place in the first showpiece final of the season.

Glentoran complete signing of Shane McEleney

Glentoran Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of former Derry City defender Shane McEleney on an 18-month contract, with an option for a further twelve months.

The 33-year-old centre-back has finalised his move after successfully completing a medical, following the conclusion of his contract with Derry City.

McEleney, who played for his hometown club in the recent FAI Cup final, will officially join the Glens on 1st January 2025.

It’s a cup final at the first time of asking for Declan Devine and his new look Glens as two excellent first half goals were enough to secure a win in tonight’s Toal’s County Antrim Shield Final at the Bet McLean Oval.

Fuad Sule returned from suspension while Andrew Mills played in goal as he has done in cup and shield ties while Jordan Jenkins was given a start in place of David Fisher who was on the bench tonight. James Singleton and Paddy McClean were still respectively suspended and injured.

Player News: International call up for Glens' Djair

Congratulations to Djair Parfitt on his selection to represent the Bermuda national team in upcoming CONCACAF Nations League fixtures.

Djair will feature in two important matches as Bermuda continues its campaign in League B, Group D of the competition against Antigua and Barbuda on Saturday 16th November and the Dominican Republic on Tuesday 19th November.

Reflecting on Saturday’s performance, Devine praised his squad’s attitude and determination, highlighting noting how their relentless work rate finally produced the goals that had been missing in recent weeks.
