Glentoran Women set for 2025 season as fixtures confirmed

The countdown to another thrilling Sports Direct Women’s Premiership season is officially on as Glentoran Women set their sights on reclaiming the title in 2025.

The 2023 champions and last season’s runners-up will kick off their campaign with an away trip to Lisburn Ladies at Bluebell Stadium on Friday 9 May.

A home tie follows in Round 2 as the Glens welcome Lisburn Rangers to Blanchflower Stadium.  Round 3 will see Glentoran Women face reigning champions Cliftonville Ladies at Solitude.

Honours even after six-goal thriller

Glentoran played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Glenavon in the Sports Direct Premiership tonight at the BetMcLean Oval.

Glentoran remain second in the table after the draw, with Larne currently in third place, three points behind.

Jordan Jenkins grabbed a brace on the night, bringing his season tally to 14, while Joe Thomson also found the net. Glenavon’s goals came from Michael O’Connor, Harry Lynch and Paul McGovern.

Gyollai urges Glens to use pain of Cup Final defeat for Euro qualification push

Glentoran goalkeeper Dániel Gyollai insists the squad is fully focused on bouncing back from BetMcLean Cup Final heartbreak as they return to Sports Direct Premiership action against Glenavon on Wednesday night at The BetMcLean Oval.

The Glens suffered a gut-wrenching 1-0 extra-time defeat to Cliftonville on Sunday with substitute Joe Gormley’s 99th-minute strike denying Declan Devine’s side a second piece of silverware this season.

Glentoran’s hopes of securing a second piece of silverware this season were dashed as they fell to a 1-0 extra-time defeat against Cliftonville in the BetMcLean Cup Final.

Substitute Joe Gormley proved to be the match-winner, striking in the 99th minute to deny Declan Devine’s side the chance to add to their Co Antrim Shield triumph earlier in the campaign.

Under glorious sunshine in Belfast, the record-breaking crowd was treated to a lively opening exchange, with both teams showing attacking intent from the outset.

Jonny Russell receives Northern Ireland U21 call-up

Glentoran defender and academy graduate Jonny Russell has been named in the latest Northern Ireland U21 squad for a series of international friendlies later this month.

Northern Ireland U21s boss Tommy Wright has selected Russell as part of his squad for a mini tournament in Antalya, Turkey, where they will face Ukraine U20s, Uzbekistan U21s and Turkmenistan U21s between 17-26 March.

These fixtures will serve as key preparation ahead of the 2025-27 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign.

Harry Cavan Youth Cup Final Date Confirmed

The Irish FA has officially confirmed that Glentoran Colts will contest the 2025 Harry Cavan Youth Cup Final against Linfield FC at the National Football Stadium on Sunday 30 March 2025 (kick-off: 2:00 pm).

The Wee Glens booked their place in the showpiece event with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Larne U18s in the Semi-Final at Blanchflower Stadium. Captain Ciaran Duffy was the hero of the night, netting the decisive goal in awful conditions to ensure Glentoran Colts’ passage to the Final.
