Hillfoot GSC Player of the Year Awards 2020/2021

On Saturday evening, the Hillfoot GSC clubrooms on the Castlereagh Road, welcomed its officers, members, Glentoran players and officials to the club’s annual Player pf the Year Awards Night for the 2020/2021 season. However it was a bit different this year as club Chairman Gareth Turkington also presented the 2019/2020 awards in light of the fact the event could not be held last year.

The 2020/2021 awards were presented as follows:

Player of the Year: Luke McCullough

Young Player of the Year: Caolan Marron

Prior to kick off, Glentoran Chairman, Stephen Henderson, club captain, Marcus Kane and club Chaplain, Rev. David Thompson conducted an Act of Rememberance on the Oval pitch.

To use an old football cliche, it was very much a game of two halves as Glentoran faced Warrenpoint Town at the Bet McLean Oval this afternoon in the Danske Bank Premiership.

Jay wins NIFWA Award

GLENTORAN forward Jay Donnelly is the Danske Bank Northern Ireland Player of the Month for October. 

The Glens number nine scored in every game during the month, impressing NIFWA’s panel with six goals in five games. A feat that makes him well worthy of the number synonymous with greats like Blackledge, Macartney, Thompson, Roberts and Hughes.

Jay said: "I am delighted to have won the award. It certainly wasn't something I was expecting

Larne 1-1 Glentoran

A 71st minute equaliser from Jay Donnelly gave Glentoran a 1-1 draw over fourth placed Larne in the Danske Bank Premiership at Inver Park this evening.

Mick McDermott made just one change from Friday’s win at Carrick, Robbie McDaid replacing Rory Donnelly in attack. McDaid had the first serious effort of the evening when he shot over after six minutes. This was followed by efforts from Larne, also over the bar from Herron and Doherty.

Larne's 2-1 win against us at Inver Park. in January 2020, thanks to Johnny McMurray's late strike, was their first over Glentoran since 1987.
