Bobby Burns has won his second consecutive supporters’ vote and has been named as the January Glentoran Player Of The Month. In a competitive field Bobby won with 44% of all votes cast.
Bobby played in all our league games in January and his assists played a major part in our renaissance under Rodney McAree. He has appeared in 29 of our 32 matches so far this season, firmly establishing himself in the midfield for role he was signed for, after filling in for the injured Marcus Kane at left back for most of last season.
The Glens made it through to the quarter-finals of the 'Samuel Gelston's Irish Whiskey Irish Cup with a comfortable win over Portadown at Shamrock Park this afternoon. Two goals from Jay Donnelly and a wonder strike from Niall McGinn decided the tie but manager, Rodney McAree also had the added bonus of welcoming Conor McMenamin back and seeing new signing, Chukwuemeka Uzokwe (Junior) have a decent debut.

Two goals from Shay McCartan gave Glentoran victory in tonight's Danske Bank Premiership game at the Bet McLean Oval. The win made it three in a row for new manager, Rodney McAree; 9 points, 11 goals scored and just 1 conceded.
Rodney McAree tells the Gazette he wants to get fans on the edge of their seats by giving players a licence to get forward but warns Crusaders, who have been flying under the radar, will prove a tough test while Greg Braniff looks ahead to what he says will be another huge game in what is turning into a fascinating race for the Gibson Cup. We flag up an admission from on-loan striker Ally Roy, new signing Niall McGinn says he wants to keep his Northern Ireland place and the Gazette publishers, the 1923 Committee, conjure up the magic of the Cup ahead of Saturday’s visit to Portadown.
