Glentoran and Coleraine paid their respects to those to paid the ultimate sacrifice before kick off at The Oval for today's Danske Bank Premiership clash. Poppies had been cut into the Oval grass and at the blow of the referee's whistle, both teams and supporters impecably observed a one minutes silence in memory of those who fought and died for their country.
There will be an Act of Remembrance prior to Saturday’s Premiership fixture against Coleraine at the Oval.
It will take place at the Directors’ entrance, beginning at 2:30pm and will be led by the Glentoran FC Chaplain, Rev. David Thompson.
Glentoran FC Chairman, Stephen Henderson, will lay a wreath on behalf of the club and visiting Chairman, Colin McKendry will lay a wreath on behalf of Coleraine FC.
Supporters from both clubs are invited to attend this short Act of Remembrance.

Remembrance Weekend features heavily in tomorrow's edition of the Glentoran Gazette. There's a look at the UEFA Football Memorial at Flanders, Roy Downes tells of how two groups of World War One service men had not forgotten their love for Glentoran and Eddy Patrick reflects on Glenmen who have passed on but whose gravestones reflect how much the Club meant to them. Plus there's the second part of the Sammy Hughes Story by Brian McClelland, details of the launch of "There's A Green Sward Called The Oval" by Sam Robinson, the usual news, views, interviews and lots more. Don't miss it!
The Glentoran 2016 Christmas Homeless Appeal will be launched this Saturday at our home game against Coleraine and we are hoping that the Glentoran Family will show their generosity, as in previous years, and give generously to this appeal.

Glentoran and Portadown played out an uninspiring stalemate at a cold, windswept Oval this afternoon. Glentoran started the day on their best run of the season, unbeaten in four and, as a result, Gary Haveron named the same 11 that were victorious at Carrick last Saturday. Portadown on the other hand came into the game after another tumultuous week.
There's lots packed into the first Gazette of the month as Brian McClelland and Roy Downes look at two Glentoran heroes of the past, one famous, the other not so well known and Sam Robinson tells the story of a Glenman and his son who are making a name for themselves in Paris along with plenty of news, views, stats, photo action and interviews with players and fans. Get them while they last!
Our manager, Gary Haveron was today named as the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Manager of the Month for October.
It is a first award for our new boss who took over at the start of the month and made an instant impact in reviving the club's fortunes on the field.
After taking over at The Oval at the end of September, Gary has led the team to a four game league unbeaten run, including three consecutive wins against Dungannon Swifts, Cliftonviille and his old club, Carrick Rangers.
The Danske Bank Premiership Trophy Tour arrived at Connswater Shopping Centre in East Belfast this week with Glentoran fans getting the chance to see the Gibson Cup and meet manager Gary Haveron, club captain Stephen McAlorum and first teamer Ciaran Caldwell.
Graeme Beggs, NIFL Marketing and Communications Manager, was delighted with the level of attention the activity received from Danske Bank customers the fans who came into the branch to get some pictures and autographs..
Ahead of this weekends game against Portadown, GlensTV caught up with Ross Redman who spent 10 years at the Mid Ulster club before moving to Glentoran.
