Glentoran 2-1 Newry City

Sat, 19/01/2019 - 18:47

Two late goals saw Glentoran come from behind to claim all 3 points in today's Danske Banke Premiership game.

Manager, Gary Smyth stuck with the same team which won against Institute last Saturday and in the first half Glentoran dominated the game but without creating many real goal scoring chances.

Tomorrow's Gazette

Fri, 18/01/2019 - 10:21

No prizes for guessing who’s on the front cover of tomorrow’s edition of your award winning Glentoran Gazette, and the goalkeeper theme continues as John Grayden interviews Elliott’s understudy Dwayne Nelson. John also reflects on how we can make the Oval a fortress once again, Eddy Patrick chats to our new manager Gary Smyth and, fresh from scoring his maiden senior goal, young striker Paul O’Neill.

Match Preview: Glentoran v Newry City

Thu, 17/01/2019 - 22:19

Saturday 19th January 2019, Kick Off 3.00pm

Things can change quickly in four months. When we last played Newry in September, we did so in third place in the table, in the middle of a nine game unbeaten run and ran out comfortable 4-1 winners with goals from Curtis Allen, Robbie McDaid, Marcus Kane and Dylan Davidson and a Newry reply from our former player Conall Delaney.

Dylan Davidson Sold

Wed, 16/01/2019 - 21:25

Dylan Davidson has left the club and joined Coleraine after the Bannsiders this evening agreed to meet our valuation of the player.

Manager Gary Smyth said : "I'm sorry to see Dylan and big James leave, but they both thought it better to move on and get more regular football. We would have been happy for both players to stay and fight for a place in the starting 11, but they thought pastures new would be better for them".

All money raised through transfer fees or wages saved by departures this window will be added to Gary's budget to strengthen the squad.

James Ferrin leaves Glentoran

Wed, 16/01/2019 - 00:14

The club this evening agreed terms for the transfer of James Ferrin to Dungannon Swifts.

James last week requested a transfer in order to secure more regular first team starts. James was a Glentoran Youth Team product over a decade ago who rejoined the club in July 2016 after some time away from football. During his second spell at the club he made 54 first team appearances, scoring 3 goals.

Institute 0-2 Glentoran

Sat, 12/01/2019 - 19:09

It was certainly one of those 'I was there' matches; a very special day. Special too for different reasons to different people and whilst for most it will be remembered for Elliott Morris scoring a spectacular goal from midway inside his own half, Paul O'Neill will remember his first senior goal for Glentoran and Gary Smyth his first win as manager.

Match Preview - Institute v Glentoran

Thu, 10/01/2019 - 23:51

Saturday 12th January 2019, Kick off 3.00pm.

A month ago we made our first league visit to the Brandywell for nearly 47 years. Five weeks later and we’re back. The term “six pointer” is severely overused but in this case it’s totally appropriate with Institute eight points and one place ahead of us (though we have a game in hand).  A win on Saturday is essential if we’re to both stop our current long winless run and to start looking to climb back up the table.

James Ferrin Transfer Listed

Thu, 10/01/2019 - 13:23

After a meeting with the Manager, central defender James Ferrin has been placed on the transfer list at his own request in order to get more playing time elsewhere.

James joined the club in the summer of 2016. He has made 55 appearances so far, scoring 3 goals.
