Statement from NIFL on this Saturday's Danske Bank Premiership programme:
The Board of Directors, management, players, staff and volunteers of Glentoran Football club deeply regret the sad death of our great friend and former Director, Kevin Milhench.
Kevin, who had a very successful career as one of Northern Ireland's most prominent Commercial Estate Agents, joined the Board in January 2013, serving six years until retiring due to ill health in July 2019.
We have received confirmation of arrangements for Glentoran supporters attending the Danske Bank Premiership with Crusaders at Seaview on Saturday 14th March.
At this stage online tickets are available for the away stand at the side of the pitch (South Stand). If sales for this stand reaches capacity, tickets will then be made available for the stand behind the goal at the Shore Road End (West Stand).
This is currently an all ticket match. We will keep supporters fully informed of any alterations.
The Irish FA, in collaboration with NIFL, has set up a response group in light of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Through the response group we aim to offer a joint approach to ensure consistent and co-ordinated messaging to clubs, players, match officials, supporters, staff and other key stakeholders potentially affected by the escalation of the outbreak.
Together with the Irish FA we will co-ordinate the game’s response to the challenges posed by the coronavirus outbreak in a responsible and planned manner. We will obviously update clubs and fans on any developments.
Navid Nasseri has won the supporter vote as Glentoran Player of The Month for February.
In what’s been a more challenging month for the team, certainly in the Danske Bank Premiership, Navid won by a landslide with an incredible 69% of the vote. Robbie McDaid – scorer of a hat trick in the cup v Queens – and Ruadridh Donnelly were joint runners up. The high spot of Navid’s month was his two great goals at Mourneview Park, the second of which also won him our Goal of the Month vote.
Glentoran suffered a disappointing 2-nil home defeat to Cliftonville in today's Danske Bank Premiership game. Playing into the strong wind the Glens were on the front foot early on with Ruaidhri Donnelly in particular looking dangerous against his former club. Although dominating possession there was over half an hour played before the first clear cut chance. Donnelly was the instigator and his cross from the left picked out Elvio Van Overbeek. Van Overbeek beat the first defender but then saw his attempt cleared for a corner.
Some of the hot topics in local football are tackled in this week’s edition of your multi-award winning Glentoran Gazette. Paul Vance pleads the case for an All-Island League while John Grayden advocates a switch to summer football. Talking of all-island, Brian McClelland looks at some Oval heroes of his youth who hailed from Dublin’s fair city and fellow historian Roy Downes delves into The Vault to look at coverage of the Glens in the English press from fifty years ago. In contrast Gazette new boy Steven Thompson looks back just one week to our Irish Cup quarter final victory last Satu
