Champs celebrate with Big Two Win

Sat, 14/10/2023 - 02:01

On a night of celebration at Ashfield, newly crowned Glentoran Women ensured an unbeaten Sports Direct Premiership campaign with this fairly straightforward 2-0 win over Linfield Ladies. The team also took its goals for tally to 101 in just 18 games with just 7 conceded and ultimately – for all the debate over goal difference, away goals. Etc in the event of a tie – won the league by 6 clear points over outgoing Champions Cliftonville. This was the squad’s third title win in 4 years and given the strength of the Reds squad, possibly the best.

Glentoran 6 - 0 Loughgall

Fri, 13/10/2023 - 22:14

Glentoran put their poor run of league form behind them in devastating fashion with this comprehensive victory over Loughgall at the Oval this evening.  There was good news even before kick-off with Luke McCullough's return from injury to take his place in the starting XI.  There was also a change of formation with McCullough the central defender in a back three, five in midfield and Jay Donnelly and Junior up top as twin strikers.

Tomorrow's Gazette

Thu, 12/10/2023 - 17:08

Friday night’s Glentoran Gazette has a bit of an international feel to it. Norman Ternahan visits the Faroes, home of the team Loughgall has deposed as the smallest European settlement with a club in top flight football; Henry Muldrew recounts trips to Holland and Luxembourg to watch the beautiful game and closer to home we argue that a new Casement Park might never be accepted by some of Northern Ireland’s fans.

Ards 0-2 Glentoran

Tue, 10/10/2023 - 23:12

Glentoran progress to the semi-final of the Co Antrim Shield after defeating Ards 2-nil this evening. Carrick Rangers will be our opponents after they saw off Dundela.

There were four changes to tonight's starting XI following the disappointing defeat to Linfield last Friday evening. Skipper Marcus Kane returned along with Niall McGinn and Jay Donnelly. There was also a start for Bailey Locke. Kane played at centre back alongside Paddy McClean with Aidan Wilson on the right and James Singleton occupying his normal position at left back.

Glentoran Seconds 2–1 Carrick Rangers Reserves

Mon, 09/10/2023 - 22:14

A last-gasp goal from Cal Weatherup gave the Wee Glens all three points tonight in a hard-fought encounter at Ashfield.

Jack Watson scored a good goal to cancel out a Carrick opener early in the second half then with twenty seconds left young Weatherup gave this very young Glens team a deserved win against a strong Rangers side. Both Glentoran scorers tonight are 15-year-olds.

The first half was a battle from start to finish. The game was played at a high tempo with Carrick battling for every ball. Neither team created any real clear cut chances.
