Double February Triumph for Conor

Sun, 06/03/2022 - 12:26

In form Glens forward Conor McMenamin has been named February’s Danske Bank Player of the Month.

Conor scored five goals in the month, including an impressive hat-trick against Glenavon. He also bagged a second half winner in Glentoran’s 1-0 win over Linfield at The Oval.

McMenamin last won the prestigious NIFWA prize in December 2019, during his spell with Cliftonville.

Delighted Conor said: “It’s nice to be scoring goals and it’s nice to be in a team that’s playing well. This award is really for the whole team, as everyone has played a part in our good form.

Glentoran 1-0 Newry City

Sat, 05/03/2022 - 19:06

Another Jay Donnelly goal fired the Glens into the semi-final of the Samuel Gelston's Irish Cup at the Bet McLean Oval this afternoon. It wasn't the best performance of the season and the game itself will certainly not live long in the memory but the primary objective was achieved and the Glens can now look forward to a semi-final encounter with Ballymena United early next month.

In another 40-page edition of the Glentoran Gazette Mick McDermott highlights the need for Stormont to move on the stadia funding and reveals the club had to turn away 2,000 fans for the recent Big Two league match. We have some advice for NIFL negotiators dealing with the politicians while Paul Vance asks why the Oval’s capacity is limited to 6,000 and the 1923 Supporters' Committee query the way the online ticketing for games is operated.

Match Preview: Glentoran v Newry City

Thu, 03/03/2022 - 22:57

Saturday 5th March

3.00pm Kick Off

On Saturday we welcome Newry City to the Bet McLean Oval in the Quarter Final of the Samuel Gelston's Irish Cup.

While Newry City currently sit atop the NIFL Championship after 28 games, their hopes of claiming the title - and sealing a return to the IPL after a 3-year absence - took a body blow last Friday night, as they slumped to a 0-3 defeat at the Showgrounds to second placed Annagh United: cutting their lead to just a point.

Glenavon 2-4 Glentoran

Sat, 26/02/2022 - 20:30

Glentoran twice came from behind to take all 3 points at Mourneview Park this afternoon and return to the top of the Danske Bank Premiership. It was a clash which brought back memories of a game at the same venue during the 1995-96 season when Glentoran scored late goals to sink the Lurgan Blues. On that occasion Glen Little was the hero for the East Belfast team. Today it was Conor McMenamin whose hattrick saw him take his tally to 17 goals this season.

Fri, 25/02/2022 - 21:51

Glentoran Football Club is delighted to be a part of The National Lottery Football Weekends.

As fans, we all understand how damaging the pandemic has been to clubs like ours. With a halt in the football calendar and no gate revenue, there were serious fears about the future of many clubs. Thankfully, National Lottery players stepped in to protect many local football clubs, providing £12.5million of support to clubs in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Important Supporter Announcement: Glenavon (Away)

Fri, 25/02/2022 - 21:01

Glenavon FC has strongly requested that flags and banners are not hung over wall at this weekend's game, obscuring advertising from club sponsors. This is a reasonable request and we urge all Glentoran supporters to conform . There are pegs at the back of the away stand to facilitate the hanging of flags, etc.

We know Northern Ireland's top supporters will again give the team excellent backing in Lurgan. As usual!
