Glentoran crash out of Shield

Wed, 23/09/2015 - 09:39

Glentoran’s poor start to the season continued as they crashed out of the Toals Senior Shield at the first hurdle. Their tie against H&W Welders finished scoreless after extra time and it was the Welders who went into the quarter-final draw with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory. In truth it was no more than Glentoran deserved with Michael Dougherty having perhaps his easiest ever night between the posts at the Oval.

Cliftonville 1-0 Glentoran

Sat, 19/09/2015 - 17:35

Another poor showing from Glentoran gave Cliftonville the three points in this Belfast derby at Solitude on Saturday. The Glens, sporting an alternate white kit for the first time this season, made a couple of changes with youngster Johnny Smith making his first start for the club.

Cliftonville v Glentoran - Match Preview

Fri, 18/09/2015 - 12:02

Glentoran manager Eddie Patterson has encouraged his players to maintain their attitude ahead of tomorrow’s away clash at Cliftonville.  After questioning his side’s mentality following a home defeat to Ballymena United a fortnight ago, the players responded by clinching a 1-0 victory against Portadown last week at the Oval.  Marcus Kane’s superb finish before half-time was enough to secure the win, but Patterson put it down to the approach and mentality of his players.

Glentoran 1 - 0 Portadown

Sat, 12/09/2015 - 17:18

Eddie Patterson’s five changes to the starting line up after last week’s debacle against Ballymena seemed to have the desired effect as Marcus Kane’s superb goal gave the Glens a thoroughly deserved three points at the Oval this afternoon.  Right from the off the home side showed more hunger than their opponents and were perhaps unfortunate not to go into the break with more than a one goal lead.

Glentoran v Portadown

Fri, 11/09/2015 - 08:40

Glentoran manager Eddie Patterson has demanded a reaction from his players ahead of their clash with Portadown at the Oval this Saturday.

Patterson questioned his side’s mentality after they threw away a one-goal lead and suffered a 1-3 home defeat to Ballymena United last week.

Curtis Allen’s early finish was not enough as goals from Matthew Shelvin, Matthew Tipton and William Faulkner helped the Sky Blues seal their first Premiership win of the season.

Tue, 08/09/2015 - 11:13

Last Saturday, prior to the Ballymena United game, Glentoran Gazette contributor, Philip Stevenson made a very special presentation to the British Heart Foundation.

The cheque for £2,500 was handed over to Gary Wilson from the Northern Ireland section of the British Heart Foundation.

This amount was raised from the sales of Philip’s book, John Colrain – A life in Football and was gratefully received by the charity, who will be using the funds locally.
