On Tuesday evening we are delighted to welcome Institute back to the Bet McLean Oval in the opening round of the Bet McLean League Cup,
Statement by the Board of Directors:
As the Board of Directors of Glentoran Football Club, we would like to formally offer condolences and pay tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, on behalf of the club and members of the Glentoran Family
Her Majesty ascended to the throne just seven years after the end of the Second World War and just three years after Glentoran returned to the rebuilt Oval. In the seventy years since her ascendance, she has led our nation through decades of unprecedented change and devoted her life to the service of the nation and the Commonwealth.
Glentoran Football Club joins the nation in mourning the death of Her Majesty The Queen. The Club extends its condolences and deep sympathy to all members of the Royal Family at this sad time for the entire nation and Commonwealth.
Her Majesty will be sadly missed throughout the world and we thank her for a lifetime of devoted and unparalleled service.
As a mark of respect to Her Majesty, tomorrow evening's Danske Bank Premiership match v Cliftonville at Solitude has been postponed.
This October, as Glentoran FC prepares to celebrate the institution’s 140th year of playing football east of the Lagan, the story of one of the club’s finest hours, the 1914 winning of the Vienna Cup in Austria is being made into a stage play. ‘One Saturday before the War’ opens on October 6th in the Sanctuary Theatre on Castlereagh Street in the heart of east Belfast.
The play, produced by the Bright Umbrella Theatre Company, follows the Glens as they traverse Europe on the adventure of a lifetime, with the spectre of the war to end all wars looming large on the horizon.
The club would like to thank and pay tribute to our Head of Media, David Kerr who has resigned to take up full time employment with NIFL.
Tonight was 16 days short of a decade since Glentoran last played Lisburn Distillery in a competitive match at the Oval! For many of the spectators it wasn't a game that will live long in the memory but for many of the young players getting an opportunity this evening, it's a game they will never forget.
Beth Stafford and Joe Burns’ graphic of goalkeeper Ollie Webber, who returned to the club this summer after stints at Crystal Palace and Portsmouth, is the cover of tonight's Glentoran Gazette which reverts to a 16-page format for a midweek game. For the first meeting of the clubs in almost a decade Cameron Moore brings Glens’ fans a run down on the 2022-23 Lisburn Distillery squad, now operating in the Premier Intermediate league, the NIFL’s third tier.

Toal's County Antrim Shield
On Tuesday evening we welcome one of Ireland’s oldest clubs and one of Glentoran’s greatest friends, when Lisburn Distillery make their first competitive visit to the Oval since September 2012.
The club is delighted to formally announce that our young goalkeeper Lorcan Donnelly has signed his first professional contract with the club.
Lorcan (16) – regular keeper with the Glens Under 20s – joined the club from Cliftonville. He played international for Northern Ireland Under 16s and has now been promoted to the U17s for the forthcoming away match in Finland.
Aidan Wilson has celebrated his first month at the Bet McLean Oval by winning the vote for the season’s first Glentoran Player Of The Month.
Ex-Rangers player Aidan was a very popular winner with an overwhelming 75% of the supporters vote. In our undefeated August he played every minute, proved a great addition to the central defence, and scored a great header in the 3-1 home win against his old club, Crusaders.
