Sunday's Gazette

Another 40-page Glentoran Gazette sees Mick McDermott taking the positives out of Tuesday night’s County Antrim Shield semi-final loss and clarifying his comments on the Conor McMenamin injury, while Paul Vance says referees already have the ammunition they need to prevent another Conor-style injury.

Squad News: Conor McMenamin

Sat, 19/11/2022 - 14:30

We are pleased to announce that Conor McMenamin has been cleared to take part in training.
After initial X-rays a ‘spiral fibula fracture’ was diagnosed; since that time, we as a Club, have worked tirelessly to provide Conor with further in-depth assessments and scans.

Since last Fridays injury Conor has been seen by and consulted with our own Glentoran medical team, the IFA senior doctor, specialists and consultants at Kingsbridge medical center: the consensus is now that the bone is in tact.

Linfield 2-1 Glentoran

Wed, 16/11/2022 - 00:32

Glentoran’s twelve season run without winning the County Antrim Shield continued tonight with a disappointing defeat in a pretty even game with Linfield at the National Stadium.

The Glens made two enforced changes from Friday’s draw at Coleraine. Luke McCullough replaced the suspended Paddy McClean at centre back while Hrvoje Plum returned for the injured Conor McMenamin in a rejigged formation with Shay McCartan in a more attacking position with Danny Purkis. James Singleton came in to boost the midfield while Ollie Webber was given his fifth start in goal.

Match Preview - Linfield v Glentoran

Mon, 14/11/2022 - 23:22

Tomorrow evening we cross the city to the National Stadium to face Linfield in the first of two “Big Two” semi-finals in the next month. First up is the Toal’s County Antrim Shield.

Despite reaching the Final of the Shield in nine of the last fifteen seasons, Linfield have only lifted the Trophy on 2 of those occasions (defeating Crusaders in 2014 and again in 2017) and most recently lost out 1-0 to Larne at Seaview in last season’s decider, thanks to a late headed goal by full back Tomas Cosgrove.

Coleraine 0-0 Glentoran

Fri, 11/11/2022 - 22:39

“With 20 minutes remaining Conor McMenamin was taken out in front of the home dugout by a ridiculous challenge from Jeff Hughes. The ball was gone and McMenamin was gone. Referee Raymond Crangle determined that the punishment was a yellow card but surely such an attempt to injure an opponent should result in a red! It's not the first time this season that our Northern Ireland international has been on the end of such treatment and unless he's given better protection from the officials it won't be the last. Eventually there'll be a serious injury.”
