Billy Mc Vea – A sort of homecoming

Tue, 30/09/2025 - 12:06

A couple of weeks ago, a former Glentoran player, returned to the Oval as guest of the club, little did we know at the time but the ex-player in question, Billy Mc Vea, now aged 87, would be one of, if not the oldest surviving former player for Glentoran.

As a teenager, Billy started out on his footballing career at his local side Portavogie before his exploits brought him to the attention of Glentoran, who moved quickly to sign him in 1957 from under the noses of a few other senior clubs.

Ruthless Glens hit eight to return to summit

Sun, 28/09/2025 - 19:01

Glentoran Women sent out a powerful statement of intent in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership title race with a commanding 8–1 victory over Lisburn Rangers at the Blanchflower Stadium.

The defending champions, playing their first split fixture, were in no mood to slip up as Emily Wilson and Kascie Weir both claimed hat tricks to restore the Glens to the summit of the table with just two games left to play.

Seconds secure Steel & Sons Last 8 place

Sat, 27/09/2025 - 21:48

An outstanding second half performance gave the Seconds a very comprehensive victory at Wilbourne Park this afternoon and very deservedly secured them a place in the quarter finals of the Toals County Antrim Shield.

The Glens opened the scoring 4 minutes before the break. A great run and cross from Cillian McCann was converted by an equally great header from Cal Weatherup. That’s how it remained at half time.

A Message from the Chairman

Sat, 20/09/2025 - 16:29

One of the unique things about being Chairman of this great club is that I do not often get to experience games in the same way as our supporters. But what I do get to see and hear is the sheer scale of the passion you bring, home and away.

Last night at the Showgrounds was a perfect example. We were told that around 740 Glentoran fans made the journey to Coleraine, but I can assure you it looked and sounded more like 2740.
