Team captain Marcus Kane will make his 200th first team appearance in Saturday’s Tennents’ Irish Cup Quarter Final (weather permitting).
Marcus, who is 26, joined Glentoran from Linfield in July 2012 after a season on loan at Carrick Rangers. He made his debut in a 3-1 home win over Donegal Celtic on 11th August 2012, scoring his first goal in an away League Cup win over Institute two months later.
In his six seasons with the club Moko has played left back, Left midfield and even as a stand in centre back before establishing himself in centre midfield this season. He has scored 21 first team goals including a number of spectaculars, most memorably away to Carrick Rangers in August 2015. However his most important goal for the club was undoubtedly in his first season when as a second half sub he scored the only goal of the game in our Irish Cup semi final over Portadown.
Marcus said this afternoon: “I’ve loved my 6 years with the club and I’m looking forward to hopefully 6 more at least to come. I’ve already loads of great memories of Irish Cup wins and European trips. 200 is a great milestone for me and I’m pushing for the lucrative 250 by next season. Everyone at Glentoran has welcomed me from the day I signed and I will put as much effort into the next 200 appearances as the last 200. It would be special to reach this milestone in any match but an Irish Cup quarter final makes it that little more special.”
Marcus is a great ambassador for Glentoran both on and off the pitch. He has an incredible track record of attending Supporters Club functions and has also been a happy volunteer to the Glentoran Christmas Appeal for the Homeless each Christmas.
Everyone at the club congratulates Marcus on his latest milestone and we all look forward to many more years and many more appearances and medals with Glentoran.
