Letter from the Lord Lieutenant

Mon, 12/04/2021 - 14:41

The club this morning received the following letter from Fionnuala Jay-O'Boyle, Lord Lieutenant of Belfast

Subject: From The Office of HM's Lord Lieutenant of The Co Borough of Belfast

Good Morning Mr Henderson,

May I express my sincere appreciation of the message of condolence on the passing of The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh from The Board, supporters and team at Glentoran Football Club which you kindly sent to the Lieutenancy.

Statement from the Board of Directors

Sun, 11/04/2021 - 12:31

As a club, Glentoran FC chose to mark the sad passing of HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh in a dignified and respectful manner, with the lowering of the Union Flag and Glentoran Flag to half-mast and through sending condolences to Her Majesty The Queen.  However as a club we recognise the depth of feeling across much of our support base and wider community was for a more public mark of respect to be displayed. There has been dangerous and baseless commentary since yesterday’s match suggesting this was a snub or that any part of the club was against such a mark of respect.

Club Statement

Sat, 10/04/2021 - 20:49

The Board of Directors of Glentoran Football Club has been made aware of some comment on the club’s commemoration of the sad passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

In the interests of clarity, immediately on hearing of the Duke’s passing yesterday, the Board instructed the Groundsman to lower the Union Flag and Glentoran Flag at the Oval to half-mast. This was done on Friday afternoon and the flags will remain at half mast for the duration of the National Period of Mourning.

Glentoran 2-0 Dungannon Swifts

Sat, 10/04/2021 - 18:59

There was just one change to the starting line up from the team which took the field at the Ballymena Showgrounds last Tuesday evening. Caolan Marron was on the bench for today’s game with Hrvoje Plum coming into the midfield and Rhys Marshall dropping into the right-back slot.

Ballymena Utd 2-2 Glentoran

Tue, 06/04/2021 - 23:10

With 12 minutes remaining, Glentoran led 2-nil and looked like securing the 3 points which would have seen them climb to 2nd in the Danske Bank Premiership. A late Shay McCartan strike and an even later penalty, converted by the same player, meant that we could only leave the Showgrounds with a solitary point.

Jay is top man for March

Fri, 02/04/2021 - 17:18

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the supporters’ vote as March Glentoran Player of the Month is Jay Donnelly.

This is Jay’s second POTM award of the season, having won the season opener award in November. He has been on fire virtually since joining the club from Belfast Celtic in September. His seven goals in eight games in March means that he now leads our scoring chart for the season with 15 goals from 26 games, an incredible start to his Glentoran career.
