Glentoran Women fired back after a tough couple of weeks in the strongest possible manner in County Dublin today with this very comprehensive win over Peamount United in the second group match of the inaugural Avenir Sports All Ireland Cup.
The Glens couldn’t have asked for a tougher challenge as Peamount currently sit six points clear at the top of the League of Ireland Women's Premier Division, But just one change was made from Wednesday’s League Cup defeat as Kelly Bailie was called into the defence for her first start of the season.
Glentoran started strongly but it was 33 minutes before they took the lead through a Joely Andrews header off the inside of the left upright . This lead was carried into the break.
The visitors continued to dominate but it was twenty minutes beforethe end when the dominance was turned into goals. From from that point the game belonged to Caragh Hamilton.
Caragh hit two goals in three minutes then with four minutes left she completed a special hat trick with her thirteenth goal of the season. Emily Wilson completed the scoring in injury time with a characteristic shot from distance.
So a clear return to form for the Glens with a very confident performance against a very strong Peamount side.
Next up for Glentoran Women is the final game in a very tough group when Shamrock Rovers (third in the League of Ireland Women's Premier Division) visit Belfast. The Glens can go into this one in a very positive frame of mind.
