Glentoran v Coleraine
Saturday 18th August 2018, Kick Off 3pm
On Saturday we face one of the biggest challenges of the season with a visit from Irish Cup winners Coleraine.
Our record against Coleraine over the past couple of years has been a poor one as Saturday’s opponents have gone from strength to strength in both league and cup. However we can take encouragement from our performance in the corresponding game last season when we were unlucky only to get a scoreless draw from the game.
Ronnie McFall: “I was pleased with both our performance and the result in Bangor last week. In the first half we were very solid in all areas with no gaps anywhere on the park and our performance and hard work fully merited the two goal half time lead. In the second half I felt we were a bit more disjointed but we managed the game well, never looked in trouble and got the win easily enough. Game management has been an issue here in recent years so I was pleased to see a big improvement ion that area compared to the previous week against Cliftonville.
Coleraine are a good team who’ve had a great 2018. Saturday will be a hard game for us but I fully expect our players to make sure it’s a tough game for Coleraine as well. We’ll definitely put it up to them from the start and I’m looking for a good result.
We’ve pretty much got a full squad available though there’s still a slight doubt over Robbie McDaid. He’s trained very well this week but I’ll be careful with him as he’s an important player for us. We’ll make the call on Robbie nearer the time.
Joe Crowe had a good run out for the U20s on Wednesday night and played his part in a good win. So he might come into the reckoning. Also I’m very pleased to have brought Sam Byrne in on loan from Dundalk. He’ll definitely give us another option and style of play up front.”
