Glentoran 2009s are Belfast Youth Cup Champions!

Fri, 13/08/2021 - 20:04

The Glens topped their group on Thursday and progressed to the semi-final on Friday where they faced a very strong Cherry Orchard team from Dublin. Having lost 2-0 to Orchard a week previous to this in a friendly, the boys knew they were in for a tough game going into today’s match so emerge 2-1 winners thanks to a brace from Matthew McCann was a great result. Onto the Final later in the afternoon and Glenavon who had defeated Galway in the other semi-final stood in the Glens way of Cup glory. The lads started on fire and flew into a 3-0 lead, however Glenavon pulled one back on the stroke of half-time which gave them new found belief. The Glens held firm but 5 minutes from the end Glenavon set up a grandstand finish with another goal. The boys dug deep though and saw it out to bring the prestigious trophy back to East Belfast.
