Glentoran Chairman Stephen Henderson has notified the Board of his decision to stand down from his position after eight years in the role.
The club’s new Non-Executive Chairman will be Ian Kerr. Ian is a very familiar face to the Glentoran Family, having served as a club director for ten years between 2008 and 2018. For most of that period he was Vice Chairman, and also played a major role in eliminating the club’s historic debt. Ian takes on his new role with immediate effect. We wish Ian every best wish as he leads the club forward.
Stephen joined the Board in January 2008. And was elected Chairman in May 2014, replacing Terence Brannigan. During his time as Chairman, he helped steer the club through some of the difficult times in the club’s recent history, devoted his time unceasingly to Glentoran irrespective of the pressures or issues faced by the club and ultimately led the Glentoran Board to a period of greater financial stability, leading to the purchase of a majority stake by Ali Pour in July 2019. A lifelong and passionate Glentoran supporter, Stephen will continue to be a director of the club. He will focus on representing the club’s interests on the NIFL and IFA committees, of which he is a well-respected member.
The Board of Directors would like to put on record their thanks for all his dedication and very significant contribution to the club over many years, They are delighted he has agreed to remain a director and play an important role in the club.
Stephen said this morning: “It has been a privilege and incredibly humbling to have been entrusted with the stewardship of this great club, even if it was during some of its darkest, cash constrained and thankless days. I want to thank each and every one of my fellow directors over those years for all the support. With the calibre of people we had, it was easier to make the unpopular decisions that had to be made in the club’s best interest. The acid test for any Chair is that they leave the club in a better position than they found it. My colleagues and I can say we did that.
I wish Ian every success moving forward and hope that a glorious and successful chapter for Glentoran is just around the corner.”
