Bobby Burns has been voted Glentoran 'Player of the Year' for 2022-23 by the club’s supporters. Castlereagh GSC organised the vote at Saturday’s home game and Bobby came out on top with an outstanding 66% of the vote. He will be presented with his award by Castlereagh GSC officials at an early opportunity, depending on whether or not we are in the European playoffs after Saturday’s game. Bobby has scored ten goals from midfield this season in his 43 appearances.
Terry Devlin was runner-up in his first season with Glentoran, with Rhys Marshall third..
Bobby said on being told of his award: “I am absolutely delighted to pick up this award. It means a lot to get this recognition from supporters and the coaching staff. I would like to thank the loyal Glentoran supporters who have backed us tremendously both home and away this year in the good periods and the bad.
I must also give huge thanks to my fellow players and coaches who have supported me greatly this year. I am sure there are a number of players who could have been considered for this award. We’ve got a very united and positive changing room right now and it’s a pleasure to be part of that.
I am really enjoying my time at Glentoran both on the pitch and in our community work in schools, hospitals and the greater East Belfast area
It is a great honour for me to receive this award when I look at the calibre of player who has won it previously. I have really enjoyed playing midfield this season and hopefully I can chip in with a few more goals before the end of the season as we seek European Qualification.”
Manager Rodney McAree: “Bobby has been fantastic for Glentoran this season, his attitude and his desire to do well has been admirable, he has played a lot of the season with a slight injury which we have had to manage so to perform week in week out and score the goals he has been fantastic and he deservedly wins this award!! Terry is a very worthy runner up. Those 2 men have been a joy to work with all season and hopefully there's better again to come from them both in the future!!!”
